On May 28, 2017 a few of my friends and I decided to do brunch a little differently.
As the rest of the world we are lovers of all things brunch so, when we heard that there was a brunch tour going on in the city of Memphis we found out how to signup! Brunch at multiple restaurants with food at all locations?? WE'RE THERE! Our host for the afternoon was Co-Founder and Owner of The City Tasting Tours, Cristina McCarter. A native Memphian who couldn't think of calling any other place home and lover of all things food. Cristina was incredibly dope. She made us forget that we had just been stuck in the storm the night before!(The storm that had Memphians without power for two weeks) We were coming from our Sorority Sister's wedding(Love you Jas and Alex). We just knew we weren't making it back to Memphis but that's another story. Cristina not only entertained us with her charismatic personality but, she also gave us all the Main Street Facts as we walked from one destination to another. We had delicious dishes, mimosas, ate sherbet with champagne, and met a few of the restaurant owners. We laughed, people watched, saw work out bae, shared our storm story, and Cristina and I even had a quick conversation about blogging. Sharing the belief that Memphis has so much more going on than we are recognized for and we have to find ways to highlight it. That was the reason for me starting this blog in the first place. To spread the positivity and information that I felt the public needed. It was a Sunday well spent! I definitely recommend you all taking this tour AND the brunch tour isn't the only tour Cristina offers! It's actually one of the latest to start. The regular city tasting tour is also a Downtown food tour on main street. However, on this one you visit 5 restaurants instead of 3. It is still a walking tour and it runs from Wednesday- Saturday for 2.5 hours. Recently, a Downtown Cocktail Tour has been added to the list but the details for that one have yet to be posted. This tour is a must for locals and visitors. You get to see pieces of Memphis you may have missed all while tasting delectable treats that excite your taste buds with all the flavors! Click the link below for more information or to book your food tour! Book it for you and your friends, as a team building exercise, field trip, corporate event, or just because! I promise you won't regret it! http://www.citytastingtours.com/

So, recently talk of redevelopment of the Fairgrounds and Mid-South Coliseum started up....again. The first of three meetings was held on August 10th to discuss the plans for the deserted area. I've heard mixed reviews on the nature of the meeting. To some there wasn't much discussion on what should happen with the area. Instead it was more so a small presentation on what the City desired for the once lively area to be. However, there were notecards handed out to the residents for ideas. Others felt that that this time it was more inclusion and an opportunity to compile all the ideas to come up with the perfect solution.
I think that even if the wheels are already in motion for a youth sports complex we should still attend these meetings to stay informed and let our opinions be heard. I definitely don't want the space to be something useless that doesn't appeal or benefit the masses so, I'll be attending the next meeting regardless of what it may be about. It is important to make sure that there are places and activities for all ages throughout the city! Memphis has a gap it needs to fill when it comes to opportunity and activities for all. If we don't pay attention or require much the city will continue to be stuck in the past hanging on to it's potential. I hope you all continue to be alert, be informed, and know what's going on. The decisions made in this city affect you. If someone gives you the option to even just have an option, take it! Next Two Meetings: September 21,2017 5:00pm Kroc Center 800 E Pkwy S, Memphis, TN 38104 November 6,2017 5:30 Kroc Center 800 E Pkwy S, Memphis, TN 38104 Website with all of the updates and any information on past efforts: https://www.memphisfairgrounds.com/ |
