The Recipe to a Delicious Brunch
Long time no hear from!! I took a small break for a month, trying to get settled and gather my life now that I’m back in Memphis! So, let me start by saying the usual…
HEY LOVES!! I hope everyone is doing great!
So, I have a question?? Do any of you all like Brunches with amazing food and spirits?? What about Day Parties, getting all dressed up, and kicking it Downtown??
Sounds like something you’d do?? Well I have the perfect solution for you!
Sunday, June 12, I along with my friend (April), little sister (Ebony), and Sorority Sister (Tiffany) ventured to a Brunch Day Party hosted and executed by D.Arthur’s Catering.
First, let me admit that I am already a fan of his events and culinary creations! I had the privilege of going to the first Brunch (June of 2014) on the river and it was AMAZING. That year it was Chicken & Waffles, Bar Tickets with strong drinks (Always what I’m looking for), seafood mac & cheese, and sweets. Hosted at Beale Street Landing with the riverside view, accompanied with the food and people; it coined D.Arthur’s brunches as the type of event you wanted to add to your calendar every year.
This year was no different! Always exceeding my expectations, D.Arthur’s catering creates an atmosphere pleasing to those who love a variety of people, great vibes, dope music, and amazing food. The venues always give you great scenery, that equips you with the tools to get those professional looking pics for the Gram or SnapChat.
The venue of choice this year was 409 S. Main, which has three different floors with glass walls, giving you a view of each floor no matter your location within the venue. Every floor had a bar! The event was plated, everyone had a seat, and the DJ (DJ Tuke) was sure to play a mixture of music. From popular to those classics that always get you up and moving. We also had an assortment of pastries and fruit. My favorite from that table had to be this peach cobbler cupcake that Ebony and I shared, then the pineapples and strawberries (I love fruit).
We walked in to smiling faces, helpful directions on what was going on, and how everything was setup. Ticket prices were 50 and 60 dollars. 50 dollar ticket granted you access to pastries, fruit, and your entrée, the 60 dollar ticket gave you access to the same with 5 cocktails to enjoy. The beverages of choice were Champagne with orange juice or cranberry juice and Sangria. The bar was cash in case someone wanted more than 5 drinks or decided that they later wanted beverages, if their ticket didn’t include those.
The doors were to open at 2 P.M., food to begin being served at 2:30, and even though the heavens opened at 1 P.M., throwing things a little behind it didn’t delay the food from coming out at the promised time. Plates were walking the floor at 2:30 and people were feeling their way around the venue. Each table was draped with a silk aqua blue table cloth, topped with vase center pieces and an aqua blue flower inside. Tables housing the pastries and fruit had glass center pieces, filled with water and floating flowers, and candles surrounding the delicious treats.
We walked around briefly until we found our table on the second floor, grabbed some champagne, a few sweets, spoke to a few familiar faces, and awaited our delicious meals.
Now! I am not a food critic, chef, or expert, so my descriptions and those of my friends may be a little vague
The food choices were those of your nontraditional brunch menu:
Shrimp and lobster grits with shrimp and lobster Etouffee over truffle Gouda grits
According to April, This dish was explained to be filling, flavorful, with great texture, topped with an incredible sauce. The shrimp and Lobster was cooked well, and seasoned with a hint of spice, giving it a little extra kick but not too overwhelming.
Beef and waffles: buttermilk biscuit waffles w/ red wine and rosemary braised chuck roast
This was the dish Tiffy had; I was able to taste this one. It wasn’t your normal brunch chicken and waffles. This dish was a tribute to a southern biscuits and gravy. The waffle was more of a biscuit, as described in the name and it was partnered with a gravy sauce. Putting a twist to your traditional biscuit and gravy breakfast dish.
Jerk chicken over sweet plantain and Yukon potato hash
This dish was my selection. I loveeeee Jerk Chicken, so it was kind of easy to decide what I would be eating but I love Seafood equally, so I was sad about the Shrimp/Lobster Grits. A wing, thigh, and leg, this dish was a sweet and spicy creation, which gave it a great balance in taste.
So of course while eating the table was a little quiet; people are serious about their food! Once we all took a couple bites we started to discuss the different dishes and their array of flavors. After eating we decided to get up, mix and mingle, and take a million pictures. We laughed, joked, enjoyed the environment, and even caught a little buzz. Well, all but Tiffany, she pretended with water and juice. (Nondrinker)
We all were definitely having a great time and appreciating the brunch that brought an end to our weekend.
I highly encourage you all to go to an event catered and hosted by D. Arthur’s Catering. The experience is worth every penny! And for those of you who say, “60 is too much for a brunch” my question is how often do you spend 60 on a single event, that happens once or twice a year?? I also say you have to realize what all you’re getting in return. An amazing dish, beautiful venue, dessert, alcoholic beverages, a chance at networking, a DJ, awesome service, and so much more! Plus we have to support each other; it is a necessary part of evolving in life! But not to fuss!
So, there it is! I just want to say thank you to Desmond Robinson (Owner and Executive Chef of D.Arthur’s Catering) for always hosting an unforgettable event.
If you need a caterer that leaves an everlasting impression, he’s definitely the one for the job. Great service, extremely professional, elegant presentation, and great food wrapped all in one. Desmond also offers other services, such as being a personal chef, etiquette coach and speaker, offering lunchbox meal prep and delivery service.
