![]() Are you looking for something new to do with your friends or significant other? Or maybe just something for yourself where you can learn while doing something different for FREE?? You should probably stop by Doc’s Wine, Spirits and More! Doc’s Wine, Spirits and More offers a wine class, Doc’s Wine Academy every Tuesday and Wednesday. The class starts promptly at 7:00 pm on both days, lasting only for an hour. It is full of new experiences, new information, different people, smiles, and wine! I’ve been twice already and I’m going this week! It’s like a real class to me. I actively listen and take many notes. Brian, the teacher for each class is from California and has a wealth of knowledge on the subject. The information ranges from the types of grapes used, soil, location of vineyard, how to determine acidity, alcohol content, ingredients, what foods to pair, to how to determine if your wine has gone bad. You get to sample from 6 different kinds however, the wines won’t always be sweet. If you don’t have an interest in learning about wine or an open mind when it comes to taste you probably won’t like it. BUT if you attend and find yourself wanting more of what you’ve tasted you can always ask to revisit what you’ve sampled. It’s a great outing for the Fall! Wow…it’s already fall! On top of them providing the class they also have reasonable prices, they may be the lowest I’ve seen in the city. They have home décor, sweets, bar tools, and so much more. The store is beautiful and the staff is always helpful and friendly. They are also looking to do a whiskey and tequila tasting soon! You do have to call before the class to reserve your spot or sign up on one of your visits to Doc’s. Oh! You also get 10% off your purchase on that night for attending the class. Thanks to Carmen (owner of AppleSauce Bartending…be sure to check out one of my previous blogs on her) I have a new weekly spot. Well maybe not weekly but I like to go at least twice a month. I’ve pretty much told all of my friends about it even those that don’t live here. Add it to your to-do list and let me know what you think once you go! I wonder does Mayor Strickland listen to Solange because his latest plan for the city of Memphis may have offered city residents "A Seat at the Table"(The name of Solange’s new Album… Definitely worth the purchase or legal download Lol)Mayor Strickland recently announced ‘Community Conversation’ as a series created to engage the people of Memphis in conversations dealing with social issues and for him to learn the needs of each community.
This series comes as a continuation of Mayor Strickland’s pledge on continuing dialogue after the protest in July of this year. On July 10, 2016 members of the Memphis community marched from the FedEx Forum to the I-40 Bridge, shutting down the bridge for hours and demanding that their voices be heard on the issues. With all the complaints and concerns about the current and future state of the city these conversations can be viewed as a start in the right direction on handling issues. I’ve always believed that the responsibility of what happens is a shared one. We can’t have so much to say without action and we can’t expect for one person to make things better for us. If we don’t want someone in office we must vote, if we want change we must create an environment for it, and demand that the officials we elect do their part. My hopes for the meetings is that everyone is on the same page during these conversations. There should be no disrespect being displayed and people genuinely voicing their concerns. It should be taken seriously because it is serious. Let's not lose sight of the purpose. I personally want to know why is Memphis so far behind in comparison to other major southern cities? Why the suburban neighborhoods located in Memphis have more opportunity, larger influx of capital, deemed as safer, and have phenomenal infrastructure when they are right down the street? The First conversation is scheduled to take place in Frayser hosted by the Frayser Community Development Corporation on Oct. 25th at MLK Prep, 1530 Dellwood from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. All meetings will be administered by community development corporations throughout the city. Future dates and locations will be announced upon finalization. I look forward to running into some familiar faces during these meetings! |
