Hey Loves so, I decided since I'm doing a two part Blog about events I should do a two part Recap, starting with November 10th-12th. Last weekend was so Memphis! It was filled with love, support, food, great events and amazing people. We had different forms of artistry being displayed throughout the city and the beautiful minds behind them being acknowledged. I had the pleasure of attending some of the events I blogged about and I watched snaps of my friends living their best lives at other events I didn’t have a chance to visit. There was so much positivity and fun being had; it was a testament to there being more to Memphis than just violence and negativity. It showed that we have events to attend, opportunities, and extremely talented people here in our city. However, if you’re not willing to find things to do or you don’t want to be here then nothing would ever be enough for you. Two of the events that I was able to attend were My City 4 Ways, which highlighted four Memphians in their areas of artistry and Cameron Bethany’s Album release party for his album You Make Me Nervous. It was a blessing to hear people talk about their dreams, why they started, and display their talents. My City 4 Ways was a free event brought to you by Essence. At the event they had celebrity appearances such as Loni Love from the talk show The Real, Creative Director/Stylist June Ambrose, the beautiful singer/songwriter Chef Kelis, and R&B Recording Star RO James. I watched people dance, laugh, have free adult beverages, sample great food and support their family and friends. It was a good time and the meaning behind it made the experience even better. It was an event that brought Memphis out to celebrate and support Memphians. I unfortunately had to leave the event early to head to my part time job but once I was free I headed Downtown to my next outing for the night. Cameron’s show, which by the way had one of the best setup I’ve ever seen for an album release, was at Loflin Yard. We had music under the stars, bonfires, and s’mores. I watched Cameron give the best of himself and continue to push through even when technology had a different plan. The audio kept giving out, leaving Cameron with no other option but to end his last song with only his gift being heard, giving us the raw passion behind his music. Can you imagine being outside while it wasn’t the warmest, during your event, with the lights and audio continuously going out, but still singing for the crowd that was watching?? It was an incredible and emotional sight! Events like these or just being in the mix of things is inspirational. Writing about events of this nature and trying to change the negative mentality of the city are my main reasons for blogging. Being that positive outlet of support and showing people the Memphis that is often publicized is not the Memphis we know and love. Memphis has this enormous negative cloud hovering over it and negativity from the residence is a huge contribution as well as a lack of support. As someone who doesn’t mind living and being settled here it often confuses me to see or hear people being so negative about somewhere they lay their heads every night. I’m not saying we don’t have a long way to go but there is more to Memphis than what is often discussed. I feel like it’s my responsibility to show the city that I see, know, and love. I hope that as I write I change views and make a difference to how the city is labeled. I also hope that you continue to follow me on my journey to show the world who Memphis really is and assist in creating the change that I believe we all want to see. There is nothing like the Grit and Grind, Support, and Love of a Memphian. I pray that we continue to work over time to show that love, support, and pride!
